Pork steak (Bistek tagalog). Pork Bistek is a delicious take on the classic Filipino beef steak. With tender pork chops and a tangy and savory sauce, it's sure to be a family favorite. Bistek was the very first recipe I shared here on Kawaling Pinoy and, naturally, is very dear to my heart.

Pork steak (Bistek tagalog) While a lot of people use pork chops in cooking their Pork Bistek Tagalog, I prefer to use pork steak cut from pork shoulders (or kasim). It gives softer meat and one that doesn't get tough. Pork Steak is a variation of Bistek Tagalog. You can cook Pork steak (Bistek tagalog) using 7 ingredients and 7 steps. Here is how you achieve it.

Ingredients of Pork steak (Bistek tagalog)

  1. You need 4 pcs of pork chops.
  2. You need 8 pcs of calamansi.
  3. It's 1 of large onion, cut into ring.
  4. It's 5-6 tbsp of soy sauce.
  5. You need 1 cup of water.
  6. Prepare to taste of Salt, pepper and sugar.
  7. It's 3 tbsp of cooking oil.

Pork chops are used in this recipe. These are marinated in lime and soy sauce and then cooked with lots of onions. It is a good dish to cook for either lunch or dinner. Serve it with warm white rice. "Bistek" is our short colloquial term for the word "beefsteak" and "Tagalog" pertains to the Tagalog Region in the Southern Luzon, Philippines where bistek is believed to have originated.

Pork steak (Bistek tagalog) instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a pan..
  2. Pan-fry both sides of the pork chop for 5 mins. or until medium brown..
  3. Remove excess oil. Pour-in the remaining marinade sauce and water and let it boil. Cover and simmer for 40mins. or until the pork becomes tender. Add more water if needed..
  4. Add sugar, salt and pepper to taste..
  5. Put-in the onion rings and cook for 3mins more..
  6. Turn-off the heat and transfer to a serving plate..
  7. Serve with rice and soda. Happy Eating 🍽.

Usually served with tender slices of beef, similar cuts of pork can also be used, and in other cases, chicken and fish fillet too. Pour-in the remaining marinade sauce and water and let it boil. Porkchop steak or popularly known in the Philippines as bistek tagalog is comprised of thinly sliced porkchop (or you can use beef), cooked in soy sauce, kalamansi juice, and ring shaped onions. Since there's no kalamansi available around my area, I used the lemon juice. This dish is very simple to cook.
